QuickBooks is an accounting software package developed by Intuit, Inc. QuickBooks launched in the early 90's, and quickly took hold as the market leader in accounting software. At the time, software packages were designed for use by accountants and cost $400 or more. There were no effective accounting solutions for non-accountants, and since many small business owners had no formal accounting training, quickbooks product was a hit. With a lower price than competitors and a deep focus on ease of use for the non-accountant, the product was innovative compared to its competitors.
Today quickbooks is the most commonly used accounting product for small businesses in the United States. Small businesses use it to track expenses, prepare and send invoices, prepare financial statements, track inventory levels, and many other jobs that small businesses must do to stay successful. It is currently available in many versions starting at the simple start version for very new businesses up to the enterprise version for larger businesses.
