floor has recently become a big thing in north america, where as in europe
they have been using laminate floor for some 20 odd years now. Laminate
flooring is an interlocking flooring system which uses the tongue an groove
technique. Laminate floor is installed overtop of the already existing
flooring, therefore it is often refered to as "floating", or a "float-in".
This is used because the floor is not directly attached to the previous
flooring, it is simply floating atop it. Although it is not attached to
the existing flooring, a laminate floor is glued together to prevent the
peices from popping up.
A laminate floor is a rather resistant floor type which is probably an
aspect of it which is most appealing. The glue used in a laminate floor
is waterproof to prevent it from coming apart in case water slips through
the laminate floor.
