Bedding is a generic term that refers to all types of material which make up a bed (generally excluding the mattress, box spring and bed frame, which are less portable). Therefore bedding is often seen as referring to bed sheets, blankets, comforters, duvets pillows and quilts. All of these materials are the making of a bed, and of the term bedding.
A bed sheet is a large rectangular piece of cotton or linen cloth bedding. It is this sheet that one typically lies on. A blanket, another piece of bedding is usually a square- or rectangular-shaped piece of cloth generally intended to keep people warm, especially while they sleep. A comforter is a soft flat bag used on a bed as a type of bed cover. It is filled with either an artificial material (such as polyester batting) or a natural material. A duvet is a soft flat bag traditionally filled with down or feathers, or a combination of both and used on a bed as a blanket.
Bedding refers to the materials laid above the mattress of a bottom for
warmth and nonfunctional effect. Bedding does not include the mattress,
incase outflow or bottom frame. Down materials are often utilised for warmth

Bedding is prefabricated from a variety of materials, including cotton,
flannel, down, polysatin, polyester, satin, silk, wool and latex
Around 3400 BC Egyptian pharaohs had their beds moved off the ground
and slept on a raised surface.
Roman Empire mattresses were stuffed with wool, feather, reeds or hay.
The beds were decorated with paint, bronze, silver, jewels and gold.
During the Renaissance, mattresses were stuffed with straw and feathers
and then covered with silks, velvets or satin material.
The arrival of the 18th century brought bottom frames prefabricated from
cast iron, and mattresses that were prefabricated of cotton. The 19th
century saw the invention of the bottom spring, also called the incase
The 20th century brought the inner outflow mattress, futon, liquid bottom
(starting in the 1960s), air mattresses, foam rubber mattresses and pillows.
* Bed touch (also bottom ruffle, dust ruffle or valance): A nonfunctional
example utilised to cover the boxspring and legs of the bed. It fits between
the mattress and boxspring and hangs to the floor.
* Bed spread: A bottom cover with sides that go to the floor. This does

or tailored; often utilised to describe pillows or pillow shams.
* Hotel bedding: Sheets with a high-thread count, to emulate the high
quality bedding materials that hotels use. Often in neutral colors. Hotels
often use high-quality bedding materials to maximize comfort for their

* Pillow shams: Decorative coverings for pillows, often designed with
